Bowl 6.7¨/ Deep blue

109.00

DESCRIPTION:

Ø6.7¨/ Ø17cm

Stoneware clay. Deep blue glaze.

Work focused in to integrate the richness and sensibility of traditional Japanese and African ceramics, to incorporate them into a contemporary style.

Clay extracted from the earth turns the piece it self into a symbol. Evoking nature in shape and use of texture, the marks left by natural processes encasing them like bark or skin.

Technical knowledge is a way of understanding art and life from the perspective very close to the zen principles of rigor, discipline, and aesthetics in an attempt to incorporate the Japanese concept of Wabi which brings together beauty and roughness, imperfection and simplicity.

Nature the greatest influence when it comes to color as well, the variety of whites reminiscent of the range of this color in a glacier, ochre and earth tones, and the seemingly infinite range of black visible in a basalt rock face.
